A sensational Phalaenopsis Orchid planted in a ceramic 'Baroque' style container.

Phalaenopsis orchids (commonly called moth orchids) are one of the most popular orchids because they are easy to grow and care for as a houseplant. They often bear multiple flower buds on arching stems, which can last for two to three months.

They grow well in centrally heated houses despite the temperature being lower than they would normally grow in and hate to be in any draught.

They must have good levels of light in the winter.

Rotate your orchid from time to time to keep its growth even.

Water around once a week and allow the growing medium to dry out between waterings.

Feed a Phalaenopsis Orchid with an orchid-specific fertilizer or a balanced fertilizer formula such as 20-20-20 at half strength. Administer fertilizer when the plant is actively growing.

To induce a flower spike, the plant needs a few cooler nights, with temperatures around 12 degrees C to bloom.
